BIOGRAPHY

Alexi Ortega Chavez is a recent graduate of Northwestern University, where he received honors in Voice and Opera Performance and an Ad Hoc major in Stage Directing for Opera. While at Northwestern University, Alexi served as the president of the student-run opera (OPUS), where he performed in shows and worked as a producer and director. Alexi's senior project for his ad hoc was directing Massenet's Cendrillon, which solidified his desire to pursue opera directing. Currently, Alexi is the stage directing fellow at The Metropolitan Opera, assisting on Tosca, Il Trovatore, Fidelio, and Die Zauberflöte under the guidance of Paula Suozzi. In 2021, Alexi was awarded a prestigious two-year research grant from Northwestern University that culminated in his project, an adaptation of Mozart's The Magic Flute that implemented our modern takes on gender, race, and sexuality.
